New DUI Law Keeps Michigan Police Busy

A new law recently enacted in Michigan has kept police busy over the past month. The "Super Drunk" law states that drivers with a blood-alcohol content level over 0.17% will face increased charges. During a three-week period this month, a total of 79 drivers were charged under the new law. Law enforcement agencies across the state conducted a three-week crackdown on drunk drivers this month. The combined efforts of 165 agencies in 26 counties led to increased DUI arrests. While searching for drunk drivers, police officers were able to target people committing other traffic violations as well.

The crackdown period, dubbed "Over the Limit. Under Arrest." was a three-week effort that took place from March 13^th to April 2^nd. A total of 4,000 arrests or citations were given out during 8,083 traffic stops. ICE Arrests Thousands during Major Operation

Over the course of six days, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents worked with law enforcement agencies around the country to detain 3,100 illegal immigrants. Following their teamwork, agencies reported that at least half of those taken into custody were wanted on or had felony convictions. In Michigan, a large number of people arrested. News sources say a total of 67 people were taken into police custody. Officer had warrants for men from a variety of countries including Bosnia, El Salvador, Iraq, Guatemala, Ghana, the United Kingdom and Haiti.

Nationwide, 2,834 of the arrestees had one felony conviction, while 1,000 of those had multiple felony convictions on their records. The people arrested were wanted for crimes including child abuse, drug trafficking, manslaughter, sexual crimes against minor, kidnapping, aggravated assault and several other crimes. A large portion of the men detained were deemed to be immigrant fugitives. These men, 698 in all, were told to return to their countries, but had failed to do so. An additional 559 were illegal re-entrants, people who had already been deported but had managed to cross U.S. a subsequent time. Theft Call Leads to Drug Possession Charges

Police were able to arrest one man on multiple charges last week in the state of Michigan. What started out as a theft call led to drug possession charges as well say news sources. Officers in Flint were called to the scene of an abandoned house where three men had been observed taking items from the property. When police arrived at the scene, the three men took off, but officers were able to catch up with one of them. In addition to having scrap metal in his possession, the 44-year-old man also had crack cocaine and a synthetic drug on his body.

One suspect, a 20-year-old man, was detained when he tried to sell crack to a police officer. A Canadian man was arrested and placed into the back of a patrol car. It is clear that he had been drinking. As the man was being transported to the police station, he began singing Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." The man's entire performance was caught on the patrol car's video and unfortunately for this man, it is now on You Tube for the world to see. Bobby Brown DUI Arrest

You may have heard, Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston's ex-husband, is in trouble again. It is being reported that he was pulled over Monday for talking on a cell phone without using a hands-free device. While he was stopped, the officer "suspected" he was impaired. It is not being reported what caused the officer to suspect he was intoxicated however, at least one field sobriety test was administered. The officer claims Mr. Brown failed a sobriety test and arrested him on suspicion of DUI. Two College Students and Teammates Caught during Burglary

Man Suspected Of Drunken Driving After Hitting Police Car

It is being reported that a Rochester Police officer was stopped, helping a motorist in need, when a man crashed his car into the police car. After the crash, the man allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol before the accident. Sobriety tests were administered and the man reportedly failed them all. The police arrested the man and took him to Crittenton Hospital where they drew his blood to determine the man’s blood alcohol content. He had allegedly refused to take the breathalyzer test. He was then held at the police station until sober. Police are seeking a warrant for OWI.
