| Michigan Club Owner Facing Drug Crime Charges |
| Posted By Freedman & Freedman |
 |
This week, the owner of an Ingham County "pot club" is facing several criminal charges after his club was raided by police this week.
Officers from the Michigan State Police raided the club, known as "Green Leaf Smoker's Club", earlier this week. Now, the club's owner Wayne Dagit is facing criminal charges, including three counts of delivery of marijuana, one count of maintaining a drug house and one count of possession of marijuana. Three of the offenses are felonies in the state of Michigan. The first offense alone carries a sentence of 15 years if Dagit is convicted.
Police say that Dagit has a criminal history as he was convicted for burglary in 1993 in the state of Illinois. They also report that Dagit opened his club back in February and had 100 people join within the first few weeks of operation.

Geoffrey D. Lauer, 20, was arraigned Sunday on charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and assault with a dangerous weapon. The charges flowed from an incident that occurred the night before where Lauer allegedly crashed a wedding reception that was being held at an outdoor pavilion in a park. Police say Lauer approached some guests at the reception and told attendees that he wanted a beer and to give a gift to the couple. When guests asked Lauer to leave, he allegedly pulled a knife and pointed it at a 22-year-old male from Weidman. The man reportedly punched Lauer who allegedly stabbed him in the right shoulder and upper back before running from the park. Lauer was later located by the Mt. Pleasant police.
A simple assault and battery case may be charged as a misdemeanor in Michigan. The offender would face, as maximum penalties, up to 1 year in county jail. However, when a deadly weapon is used, the potential penalties may escalate. Assault and battery may be charged as a felony if the perpetrator committed the act with the intent of causing serious disfigurement, for the purpose of robbery or to commit murder.
Our firm takes on these cases throughout Warren, Sterling Heights, Troy, Rochester Hills and Royal Oak, Michigan. No matter the particular assault and battery charges you’re facing, an experienced lawyer can still help. Contact Freedman & Freedman

| Man Charged With Felony In Crash That Killed Friend |
| Posted By Freedman & Freedman |
 |
Timothy Conant claims that on February 11th, while driving his truck on 20 Mile Road in Spencer Township, he hit a patch of ice that caused him to cross the center line and crash into a tree. His friend and passenger, Richard Wallington, died in that crash. Prosecutors allege that Conant had alcohol in his system as well as THC, the chemical found in marijuana. Last week prosecutors filed felony charges of manslaughter and operating under the influence causing death. Conant's attorney indicated that the residual THC in his system was from earlier pot use that no longer affected his driving ability. While the amount of alcohol in Conant's system was not disclosed, his attorney claims that the amount of alcohol was arguably less than the state's legal limit for driving.

| Michigan Kidnapping Stems from Drug Theft |
| Posted By Freedman & Freedman |
 |
In Flint, Michigan, a woman and her son called police and told them that the son had been kidnapped this past Monday. Law enforcement said that the kidnapping may have occurred because the son and his brothers stole marijuana from nearby drug dealers.
When speaking with police, the son said that he had been walking when two strangers began to chase him. Once the two males caught up with him, they forced him into the back of a small, black vehicle. Police say the incident took place during the evening hours.
Once the victim was secured in the vehicle, the two males drove him to an area near Flushing and Dupont Street. They then pulled him from the back of the care and proceeded to beat his face. After hitting the victim several times, the two males ran away.
The mother told police that she believes the incident occurred because of the drug theft and that she fears for her sons' lives.

A 44-year-old woman is charged with unarmed robbery, conspiracy to commit unarmed robbery, felonious assault, two counts of OWI with a passenger under the age of 16 and second-degree child abuse in Saginaw, Michigan.
It has been reported that a Saginaw Valley State University student was walking, carrying her purse and several grocery bags, when Yolanda M. Leal allegedly stopped her vehicle to let out her 15-year-old daughter and her 16-year-old niece to rob the student. It is alleged that the teens physically assaulted the student before taking her purse and groceries. The teens reportedly got back into the car and Leal drove them - along with Leal's 2-year-old granddaughter - to a hotel in Kochville Township. The police were able to apprehend the suspects through the efforts of a witness who followed the vehicle to the hotel and blocked it to prevent the suspects from leaving. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 24th.

In 2006, Lance Allen Chatman drove through a stop sign and crashed into a van causing horrible injuries to off-duty Ottawa County Sheriff's Deputy Al Conklin. Chatman was later convicted in December 2006 of operating while impaired causing serious injury. It is reported that Chatman had THC, indicative of marijuana, in his system as well as some alcohol that was less than 0.08. Chatman was released from prison in October 2009.
It is now reported that Chatman was arrested early Monday for drunken driving, possession of marijuana and fleeing and eluding after he allegedly sped away from a Holland Police officer who was attempting to effectuate a traffic stop. A high speed chase ensued with cars reportedly reaching 100 mph on U.S. 31 before Chatman allegedly crashed the car he was driving near the Blue Star Highway. It is further reported that Chatman then ran from the vehicle but was later found in the nearby woods by a tracking dog. Chatman has not had a driver's license for years.

| Man Pulls Knife On Officers |
| Posted By Freedman & Freedman |
 |
In Grand Blanc Township, an officer was parked at the corner of Fenton Road and Maple Road conducting a traffic watch on April 30th. He noticed a car in a parking lot across the road flashing its headlights so the officer approached the vehicle, thinking he was in need of assistance. The man in the car reportedly told the officer that what he was doing was wrong. The officer allegedly told the man he was just doing his job and returned to his vehicle.
About an hour later after returning from a traffic stop and arrest, the officer reported seeing the same man in his rear view mirror approaching the car on foot. The officer saw the man reaching toward what looked to be a holster and he got out of the car, drew his gun, and put the car between himself and the man. The man had reportedly pulled a nine-inch hunting knife from his belt. The officer ordered the man to drop the knife but he refused. More officers arrived on the scene and after again being told to drop the knife, the man raised the knife over his head and approached one of the officers. Apparently at this point, the man's mother was nearby and yelled for the police not to shoot, saying that her son was off his medications. The man then fled to a nearby subdivision where police later located him. He was Tasered and then taken into custody. The man was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, obstructing a police officer and two counts of felonious assault.

| Drunk Driving Jell-O Wrestler Enters Plea |
| Posted By Freedman & Freedman |
 |
It is reported that Jennifer Lynn McComas, age 29, pleaded guilty to one count of impaired driving and that in return, prosecutors agreed to drop the charge of operating while intoxicated. This plea agreement arises out of an incident that occurred on February 7th in Milan Michigan. It is reported that on Super Bowl Sunday, McComas was a participant in a Jell-O wrestling match at Dino's Dugout. Police arrested McComas shortly after she left the bar and it is reported that she was wearing a bikini and was covered in Jell-O at the time that she was pulled over. Apparently officers chose not to perform the usual field sobriety tests due to her lack of clothing and the cold temperatures. Her preliminary breath tests apparently showed a blood alcohol content of .147.
