A43-year-old Orion Township man to be arraigned Wednesday was on parole for shoplifting when arrested Monday for the same crime, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect, whose name is yet to be released, will be arraigned Wednesday at 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills.
According to news reports, the suspect started the 6 p.m. caper in Auburn Hills at the Kohl's store on Baldwin Road. The suspect ran from the store clutching $225 worth of hoodies and other men's clothing while loss prevention officers were in pursuit.
He ran through the parking lot, across busy Baldwin Road at rush hour and into a residential neighborhood - all while one of the store's security officers chasing him was using a cell phone to direct responding police.
Within minutes, Oakland County Sheriff's deputies from the Orion Township substation pulled into the area and joined in cornering the suspect and they made the arrest with no resistance.
The suspect, held since in the Oakland County Jail, is to be charged with first-degree retail fraud, a five-year felony that results from adding his second-degree alleged crime - the theft of items worth less than $1,000 - to a record of a prior conviction, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office media release.
