Man Faces Ninth Drunken Driving Charge
On October 24th, Bruce Sloan, 51, was reportedly weaving into oncoming traffic near
West Main Street
and
Valley Vista Drive
in
Grand Rapids
Township
. When an officer tried to pull him over, Sloan drove away and avoided attempts to flatten his tires with “stop sticks” before driving 12 miles to his driveway. There, he was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and driving while license suspended.
Sloan reportedly has eight drunken driving incidents on his record and, not having had a license since 1986, this was his 4th charge of driving on a suspended license. On Wednesday, Sloan waived his probable cause hearing and the case will be removed to the Kent County Circuit Court.
A DUI or OWI conviction can have numerous negative consequences. Of course, imprisonment is one of the most serious consequences. However, even losing your driver’s license for an extended period of time can cause economic hardship and a great deal of stress. Relying upon friends, family members, and public transportation to get to and from work or school is not only a hassle, but you may not be able to get where you need to go on time. You may also face fines, community service and probation for a conviction. Loss of employment is yet another potential side effect.
