Traffic Stop Results In Drug Seizure And Recovery Of Stolen Vehicles

It is being reported that an officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic stop around 11:40 Monday night. During the stop, the officer allegedly noticed "what appeared to be a bag of cocaine" inside the car. After the officer retrieved the bag, the female driver sped away from the scene.

A police chase ensued and the suspect driver was eventually stopped when spike strips were used to deflate the vehicle's tires. The woman was arrested at that point but a male passenger ran away. A few hours later the male passenger was apprehended after the police received a tip from a BP station clerk who saw the suspect enter the station and was able to describe the type of vehicle the man was driving. It turns out that the car being driven by the female suspect was a stolen rental car and the male suspect had stolen the vehicle he was driving after he initially ran from police. According to police, they had seized more than two ounces of cocaine and more than $500 cash.

If you have been charged with a drug crime, letting a Michigan drug crimes lawyer review your case is one of the most important things you can do. You need someone on your side in court. By conducting an independent investigation, your lawyer may discover that law enforcement actually did not conduct a valid search and that the evidence obtained during that search may be inadmissible. This alone would greatly impact a case. You have the right to be protected from an unlawful search and seizure by law enforcement personnel. You also have the right to legal counsel in the face of any criminal charges, and this includes drug crimes.
