Bride Arrested for Identity Theft at Her Wedding
There is nothing like getting arrested on your wedding day, although it should not have been much of a surprise to one woman in Port Richey who was wanted by police for identity theft for several years.
Just as the 50-year-old woman was saying "I do" at the altar, several officers approached her and said that she had the right to remain silent. Prior to the arrest, the officers waited at the back of the ceremony before they moved in, surprising both the woman's new husband and her wedding guests.
Police documents show that the woman has been wanted for two years after an arrest warrant was issued in her name. The warrant originates in Michigan where officials discovered that the suspect was using her son's identity to pay her utility bills. When she stopped paying the bills, local officials started investigating the case.
By the time her warrant was signed by a judge, the woman had accumulated $3,000 in debt under her son's name, who was only 17 at the time. He was unaware of her actions until he tried to open up a credit card and learned about the debt that had accumulated under his name.
