Fenton Man Arrested For Drunken Driving
It is being reported that a Fenton man, 36, was stopped for speeding by the Grand Blanc Township police. The man allegedly was slurring his speech, had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol according to police. There is no report of any field sobriety tests being administered. The police are claiming that the man indicated he was coming home from a bar on Fenton Road. He was taken to the station where he allegedly took a breathalyzer test that indicated he had a 0.20 blood alcohol content. He was then placed in the Genesee County Jail. It is unknown what the man has officially been charged with but he could be charged under the relatively new 'super drunk law.'
The 'super drunk law' applies to people with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of more than .17. First-time offenders will have their license suspended for one year, 45-days of which all driving privileges will be suspended. Thereafter, a person may apply for a restricted license for the remainder of the year provided, that the person installs an 'ignition interlock' device at his/her own expense. The previous law required only 30-days hard suspension and no 'ignition interlock' device. Under the new law, the maximum potential jail sentence increases from 93-days to 180-days, higher fines will be imposed and all offenders will have to participate in a one-year alcohol treatment program.
