Five Men Arrested for Sex Crimes in Niles City
A six-week investigation headed up by the Niles City Police Department resulted in the arrest of five men this week.
According to police reports four of the suspects taken into custody are 18 years old; the fifth suspect, who is 17 years old, is considered an adult in Michigan. All five suspects are expected to be charged with criminal sexual conduct in the first degree. Captain James Millin added that "some have, I think, multiple, there are other charges of extortion and of possession of or manufacturing child sexually abusive material".
Captain Millin also wanted to stress that the high school where the sex crimes happened was not involved in any way with the incidents. It was simply a place where the boys could all meet to discuss and plan their crimes. The investigation ended when one victim made an initial report to officers, prompting the four other boys to be brought in for questioning.
