Deputy Arrested For Drunken Driving

A deputy from the Oakland County Sheriff's Department was arrested last weekend. He is accused of drunken driving and fleeing and eluding police. Authorities claim that 2 witnesses saw his Jeep driving erratically, nearly striking another vehicle as well as a jogger, and called the police. A Lake Orion officer caught up with the deputy and began to follow him. It is being reported that the deputy initially refused to pull over but eventually stopped his car. As the officer began to walk to the car, the deputy took off and drove away. Eventually the officer was able to get the deputy to pull over and throw his keys out of the car. Authorities claim that the deputy was unable to perform field sobriety tests but that his blood alcohol content was between .258 and .29. Apparently, this is the deputy's second arrest for drunken driving.

A DUI or OWI conviction can have numerous negative consequences. Of course, imprisonment is one of the most serious consequences. However, even losing your driver's license for an extended period of time can cause economic hardship and a great deal of stress. Relying upon friends, family members, and public transportation to get to and from work or school is not only a hassle, but you may not be able to get where you need to go on time. You may also face fines, community service and probation for a conviction. Loss of employment is yet another potential side effect.
